ABOUT WOUNDAIDThe Wound-Aid Story
Douglas B. Huntley M. D., is a general/vascular surgeon with many years of post-doctorial training and experience in the management of acute and chronic wounds. His “wound care service” boasts a healing rate approaching 95% and covers patients throughout ALL of Western North Carolina, Upstate South Carolina and Eastern Tennessee. For years he recommended to his surgical/wound-care patients a plethora of supplements that his personal research, research of the world literature and experience indicated were necessary for both soft tissue healing and optimal wellness. Many times his patients were unable to afford the cost of these supplements. Dr. Huntley's research led him to conclude that the nutrients necessary for healing did not exist altogether in one product. This search began some twenty years earlier when he served as “First” and only assistant to Robert Weast, PhD then Chief Editor of the world renown CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics and his lead investigator for the First Edition of the CRC Handbook of Biochemistry. His interest in the “Biochemical Process” continued as he was granted a Fulbright Scholarship for biochemical research at the Universitat Heidelberg in West Germany. Most recently he was inducted into what many consider to be the worlds most prestigious International Scientific Research Society, Sigma Xi. This society has many prominent world scientists such as Stephen Hawking, PhD (Stephen Hawking's Universe) and over 200 Nobel Laureates! So out of this frustration he began work on a formula that included these nutrients. With formula in hand, he was still faced with the challenge of finding a way to produce these supplements for his patients. Dr. Huntley approached his compounding pharmacist and asked if it were possible to put these nutrients together in a capsule, where one or two a day would deliver the necessary building blocks for healing. Wound-Aid's Advance was born. Dr Huntley, in conversation with a colleague, mentioned the need of a supplement for men, to address prostate health. His research and involvement with nutritional studies helped him to formulate just such a product, designed to aid in the prevention of prostate cancer; these were the set of nutritional agents presented in Nov. 2004 at The American College Of Urology meeting in NYC, NY, USA. He also worked with his compounding specialist, to create a formula for people who are prone to urinary tract infection, a combination of pro-biotics and a simple sugar, D-mannose (which coats binding sites on the bacterium E. coli) which may assist in the prevention of such infections. Then, Dr. Huntley had his dream product, Wound-Aid's Advance and two other superior formulas. He thought how wonderful it would be to help more than just his own surgical patients! Thus, the idea to market these products and to eventually develop more specialty nutritionals came into being. Wound-Aid's Advance a division of Huntley Surgical Consulting Inc. became a reality.* *These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA.
